Blood peach and nectavigne ®
First French producer
BLOOD PEACH
The story started more than 250 years ago in the Coteaux du Lyonnais. At that time, in order to protect their vines from the ravages of powdery mildew, wine growers would plant peach trees which were highly sensitive to this parasitic fungus in the middle of their vineyards. As soon as the first signs appeared on these control plants, the alarm was raised and the vines saved. This very specific peach tree produced a small, very downy fruit commonly called the "vineyard peach", "vinous peach”or even "blood peach" due to its crimson flesh. It has characteristic red flesh, juicy, tangy, very sweet and, above all, highly aromatic. By selecting the most attractive fruits, a complete range was born, available from July to September.
THE NECTAVIGNE®
It is thanks to one man, René Monteux-Caillet, and a few local producers who were able to spot the extraordinary potential of this fruit, that it has been possible to preserve the Nectavigne® and adapt it to the needs of today's markets.
"By combining the benefits of a modern product, the nectarine, with the typicality of a rustic and traditional fruit, the vineyard peach, we have obtained a unique fruit: a "vineyard nectarine", that is to say, a nectarine with blood-coloured flesh.".
A totally new fruit saw the light of day: a direct descendant of the vineyard peach, today the Nectavigne® offers the same characteristics as its forebear except for its downy skin. It has retained the wine lees colour of its skin, the traditional crimson of its flesh and the subtle aromatic balance of its scent, sweet yet tangy. Unmistakably recognisable from its speckled skin - an indicator of its high sugar content - the Nectavigne® is a fruit of the terroir, highly coloured, bursting with aromas and flavours, both rustic and noble and a real find for lovers of great vintages.
